Job Summary

  

The Commercial Real Estate Consultant position will actively participate in the closing, servicing and post-closing aspects of the commercial mortgage and equity portfolio.  Primary responsibilities will include leading the closing process, due diligence analysis, addressing servicing requests and portfolio reporting and oversight.In addition to interacting with brokers, borrowers, servicers, attorneys, and consultants, this high visibility role provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with our parent company Loews on all phases of the lending process and exposure to senior management.  The commercial mortgage portfolio is a successful and growing part of CNA’s $45 billion investment portfolio.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  1. Actively lead the successful closing of mortgage loans under application through analysis and evaluation of property, Borrower and Guarantor level information to identify any potential problems and recommend solutions.
  2. Ensure an efficient closing through coordination with all internal and external parties, including brokers, borrowers, attorneys and the origination team.
  3. Review third-party reports, including appraisals and environmental and property condition reports.  Inspect property and surrounding market. 
  4. Confirm market information and initial underwriting, including internal valuation and structure (e.g. reserves) appropriate to mitigate risks.  Create supporting financial analysis, including final underwriting.
  5. Compose funding memorandum for investment committee.
  6. Regularly interface with in-house and outside counsel in review and negotiation of loan and other financing related documents, including SNDAs & Estoppels.
  7. Work with third party loan servicers to make recommendations to address borrower requests and resolve servicing related issues. Review the annual property financial analysis and inspections received from the loan servicers and highlight any potential issues.
  8. Analyze, evaluate and propose terms for re-financing of existing commercial mortgage loans, including loan assumptions and modifications.
  9. Partner with internal and external accountants to support accurate reporting of loans.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities 

  1. Professional work experience in commercial real estate as a commercial loan servicer, loan closer, analyst, appraiser or other hands-on relevant experience required.
  2. Solid knowledge of real estate finance and market fundamentals and valuation principles.
  3. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and effectively.
  4. Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve more complex situations and issues.
  5. Must be results oriented with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. 
  6. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external business partners.
  7. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.  ARGUS and CoStar knowledge a plus.   

Education & Experience 

  1. Bachelor's Degree, preferably in real estate, finance or related field
  2. Typically a minimum 5 to 8 years of related commercial real estate experience required.
