POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vice President will direct the Institute’s Advisory Services programs, including managing Advisory Services and other contributing staff; recruitment of panelists; staffing panel assignments; writing and editing reports; assisting in marketing panels; overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Advisory Services program, including budgets, panel staffing, report production, and sponsor relations.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Advisory Services program including, but not limited to, monitoring the budget, recruitment for panels, logistics, sponsor relationships, staffing for panels, contracts, and invoicing.
- Works with the Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President in program development and strategic positioning of the program within and outside of ULI.
- Works directly with the district councils that are undertaking Technical Assistance Program panels (TAPs) to ensure they are within the member-directed guidelines.
- Builds relationships with potential panel sponsors to scope the panel assignment and develop background materials.
- Develops new Advisory Products, including marketing strategies and associate logistical support for new products.
- Coordinates Advisory Services internship program with selected schools and universities.
- Staffs Advisory Services assignments on site.
- Works with the panel chair to carry out the assignment to produce the panel report.
- Substantively edits reports and other Advisory Services products and assists in the production of the reports.
- Writes articles for ULI publications and participates in other research, education, and publications projects on an occasional basis.
- Undertakes management responsibility for various “non panel” initiatives in Advisory Services such as Metrics Initiative, Foundation-based panels, and coordination of program integration.
- Manages Advisory Services budget and labor projections for the department in conjunction with Senior Vice President.
- Responsible for directing junior Advisory Services staff and other content team participants in technical and content aspects of panel work.
- Responsible for directing logistics staff regarding preparatory and on-site work for panels.
- Takes a leadership management role with regard to non panel initiatives as directed.
- Works on a continuous basis with representatives of public, nonprofit, and private organizations that are interested in sponsoring Advisory Services assignments.
- Works closely with ULI leadership who chairs panels and with members invited to serve on panel assignments.
- Collaborates with ULI member leadership and coordinate their participation in programs.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience working in the field of urban planning, economic development, real estate development, or allied fields.
- Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and producing reports.
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to write, speak, and present to large and small groups.
- Knowledge of standard MS Suite programs Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Adobe suite.
- Knowledge and experience with MS Project and/or similar project management programs.
- Working knowledge of specialized computer programs such as ARC GIS, CADD, and Sketch UP.
- Working knowledge of services, systems, and databases such as CoStar, Claritas, and ESRI Business Analyst.
- Urban design, architecture, and drawing skills a plus.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Master’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or real estate development preferred.
