Summary:

 

The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for timely and accurately leading a team of Property Accountants, maintaining all accounting books and records for their assigned properties.

 

Position Reports to: Accounting Manager

Essential Functions:

  1. Leads team of Property Accountants, ensuring accuracy and completeness of accounting books and records for assigned properties.
  2. Monitors workload, assists with training and development of assigned staff, and reports progress to Accounting Manager.
  3. Ensures complete preparation of monthly journal entries and accruals for assigned properties.
  4. Ensures preparation of monthly balance sheets/bank reconciliations.
  5. Completes month-end process including balancing A/R and A/P sub-ledgers to general ledger and financial statements.
  6. Reviews accounts payable and approve payment disbursements.
  7. Monitors compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices.
  8. Reviews and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries.
  9. Prepares financial reports for management.
  10. Prepares quarterly and yearly financial reports for lenders.
  11. Works closely with corporate team and property managers.
  12. Works on special projects as assigned.

 

Skills/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
  • CPA eligible
  • 3+ years of full cycle accounting
  • Self-motivated, career oriented, fast learner and works well in a team environment
  • Must be technically astute and well versed in Microsoft Excel. Experience in Accounting software, such as Yardi, RealPage, or MRI is a plus.

 

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Required to maintain a regular schedule which may require working outside business hours, weekends and non-traditional holidays.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 20 pounds.
  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency required.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend and stoop for extended periods of time.
  • Talking and expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Visual requirements including depth perception, and field vision.
  • Ability to compare, copy, coordinate, synthesize, negotiate, communicate, and instruct.
  • Ability to successfully navigate stressful situations.
  • Ability to work under minimal to moderate supervision.
